After the DOB awards a permit to an individual or company, the city requires a special inspector to be present under the supervision of an engineer which oversee the special inspections of various stages of the construction process - underpinning, excavation, footing and foundation, rebar, pouring of concrete, masonry, installation of plumbing, mechanical systems, and more.
